The analysis is partly automatic. We use our corporate tools that crawl all backlinks and filter them by different stats and statutes. For example, domains that Google regards as malware, domain authority, domain trust flow, domain citation flow, ongoing domains, IP networks and so on. This allows us to cut off backlinks that are 100 % authoritative, clean and mark those that looks most suspicious, but only after we check them manually.
